Welcome to the European Solidarity Corps! In this first module, you'll be introduced to the ESC, its mission, and the values that underpin it. You'll learn about the importance of solidarity in Europe, the goals of the ESC, and what it means to be part of this vibrant community. We'll also give you a tool to brainstorm your initial steps in your new project, that will also serve as a reflection on your first impressions. Let’s get started on this exciting path toward making a positive impact in communities across Europe!

Sixth module
Living as a European Solidarity Corps volunteer often means living in an intercultural, diverse environment, where effective communication is crucial. This is why we thought that non violent communication might help: in this module you'll learn the basics of it, even with some practical examples, and you can train it in your everyday life... even after the end of the project! We'll also provide you with another tool to evaluate your experience and reflect on it under different aspects.

You are now at half-project! We'll take advantage to keep exploring a path of personal development, particularly with the Ikigai assignment, and we'll give you the chance to reflect on the first half of your project with a reprise of an activity you did at the beginning: going back to it and updating it will help you evaluate it and find new motivation for the second half!

  5. Pocket Money: Volunteers receive a monthly allowance (pocket money) to cover personal expenses. The amount varies depending on the country where the project takes place.
  6. Time Off: Volunteers are entitled to weekends off, public holidays, and additional leave (two days off per month of service).

Rights and Responsibilities of Hosting/Supporting/Coordinating Organizations

Rights:

  1. Support from Sending Organizations: Hosting organizations and volunteers have the right to expect support from the sending organizations, including assistance with pre-departure preparations and ongoing communication.
  2. Adequate Preparation: Organizations are entitled to ensure that volunteers are adequately prepared about the ESC programme guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Quality and Safety: Organizations must ensure that the project provides a safe and supportive environment for volunteers. This includes ensuring that the tasks assigned are meaningful, non-exploitative, and align with the project’s objectives.
  2. Training and Support: Hosting organizations must provide necessary training, ongoing support, and mentorship to volunteers throughout the project. This includes orientation, on-arrival training, and regular supervision.
  3. Logistical Support: Organizations are responsible for providing or arranging appropriate accommodation, meals, or a living allowance, and covering volunteers’ travel expenses.
  4. Insurance Coverage: Organizations must ensure that volunteers are covered by insurance for the duration of the project, as provided by the ESC.
  5. Conflict Resolution and Problem-Solving: Hosting organizations are responsible for addressing any issues or conflicts that arise during the project, providing mediation or support when necessary.
  6. Evaluation and Feedback: At the end of the project, organizations should conduct an evaluation of the volunteer’s performance and the overall project, and provide a Youthpass certificate if applicable.

These rights and responsibilities ensure that the ESC volunteering projects are structured, safe, and rewarding for both volunteers and organizations, promoting positive outcomes for everyone involved.
